Animal Skeletal System Pdf

Biology Lesson 2: Skeletal and Muscular Systems

Chapter 6: Skeletal System

The skeletal system provides a framework for the body, protects internal organs, and facilitates movement. It consists of bones, cartilage, and ligaments. Bones are hard, mineralized tissues that support and protect the body. Cartilage is a flexible, connective tissue that cushions and connects bones. Ligaments are bands of connective tissue that join bones together.

Functions of the Skeletal System:

  • Structural support
  • Protection of internal organs
  • Movement
  • Storage of minerals
  • Blood production

Chapter 7: Muscular System

The muscular system allows for movement, posture, and heat production. It consists of skeletal muscle, smooth muscle, and cardiac muscle. Skeletal muscle is attached to bones and is responsible for voluntary movement. Smooth muscle lines internal organs and blood vessels and is responsible for involuntary movements, such as digestion and blood flow. Cardiac muscle is found only in the heart and is responsible for pumping blood.

Functions of the Muscular System:

  • Movement
  • Posture
  • Heat production
  • Protection
  • Circulation

Conclusion:

The skeletal and muscular systems are essential for movement, support, and protection. They work together to allow us to perform numerous activities, from walking and running to breathing and digesting food. Understanding the functions of these systems is crucial for appreciating the complexity and interconnectedness of the human body.
